As Apple plans to launch its new product, iPhone 5, it invited media to a special event called “Let’s talk iPhone” at its Cupertino, California headquarters, an unusual location for the company that generally chooses larger venues for major product releases.
This event dated October 4 is a big suspense to the media as no other details about the event are kept in the open domain. Apple’s spokesperson also kept mum when asked about event outline. However, “This is the iPhone 5,” ThinkEquity analyst Mark McKechnie said of the event.
After Tim Cook took over as Apple’s CEO last month, post co-founder Steve Jobs resignation, iPhone 5 would be the first crucial product launch. It was unclear whether or not Jobs, who is now a chairman, will take over the stage.
According to reports, iPhone 4 is a very successful device. Apple sold 20.34 million iPhones in the third quarter, which ended June 25. Analysts said that the massive features in iPhone 4 leveraged its sale, helping iPhone vault behind Nokia and Samsung Electronics becoming world’s most popular smart phone makers.
Sources revealed that apparently manufacturers-Hon Hai Precision Industries Co Ltd and Pegatron Corp of Taiwan-are gearing up to make around 45-million units. iPhone 5 is said to have a dual core processor and better integration with computing services such as iCloud. It is expected to be faster as iPad with its A5 chip. “…The new (iPhone) 4 will tackle the prepaid market and the (iPhone) 5 will… …be faster, thinner and possibly with a bigger screen,” Colin Gillis, analyst with BGC Partners said.
“It will have a bigger touch-screen, better antenna and an 8-megapixel camera”, a source with relevant information said.
Introduced in 2007, the iPhone 4’s touch-screen template gained wide acceptance among rivalry smart phone markers. However, iPhone maintains its gold standard in the fast-paced smart phone market. With constant improvements and state-of-the-art technology adopted by Apple, it always had a competency to stand out in the crowd.
Although iPhone 4 is the ultimate, there is still major scope for improvements. With iPhone 5, Apple will bring plethora of new features to smart phone market beyond people’s anticipation.
